Recently, the American Astronomical Society (AAS) Journals proposed an interview on the research result of "Identification of 2971 M-type subdwarf stars based on LAMOST data" by Dr. Shuo Zhang and the collaborators.
This work provides another large sample of M-type subdwarf stars after the systematically searching in the SDSS data by astronomers. Different from the SDSS sample, those of LAMOST are mainly concentrated in the Milky Way disk. These two complementary samples provide strong support for studying the physical mechanism of M-type subdwarf stars and M-type metal-poor dwarfs.
Prof. Ali Luo, the corresponding author of the research paper and the Director of LAMOST data reduction department, received the online interview by Prof. Frank Timmes, the Lead Editor of AAS Journals.
During the 30-minute interview, Prof. Luo introduced the main results of their work, explained the new classification criteria of M-type subdwarf stars, and the process of identifying the 2791 M-type subdwarf stars in LAMOST DR4. The characteristics of the sample and how to obtain the sample data from the AAS database were also explained. Last but not the least, he briefly introduced their subsequent works of atmospheric parameters determination and kinematic analysis combined with GAIA data.

The AAS Journals conduct interviews about the new articles and/or impactful ones which are among the top 10-15 most cited articles in the years they were published. This research result about the M-type subdwarf star sample is the first LAMOST result that was interviewed by the AAS Journals, which also shows that LAMOST is becoming more significant and impactful in the international astronomical community.
